Online Gambling Software: To Download or Not to Download?

When playing at online casinos, players are often introduced to several online gaming platforms wherein some require players to download the gambling software while some don't. The basic distinction between the two is that the no-download online gaming software is only temporarily stored in the browser of the player's computer for the duration of the play. On the other hand, a to-be-downloaded online gambling software needs to be saved in the hard disk of the player's computer.

For the need-to-be-downloaded online gambling software, the downloading and installing is a one-time activity which will roughly take about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the internet connection. Although the no-need-to-be-downloaded online gambling software will only take a minute or so to be saved in the browser, a player will be spending the same amount of time to access the online game since nothing is saved in the computer. The leading online gambling software providers have found a way to avoid the longer setup time of the to-be-downloaded gaming software. A few of the popular online games are downloaded first and are immediately accessible for play, while the rest of the software continues to download.

The to-be-downloaded gaming software can occupy anything between 5 MB and 40 MB of the player's computer memory, depending, of course, on number of games offered and the built-in features. The no-download gaming software does not utilize any memory space on the computer since a player will only access it online; hence, if a player's computer memory is small, the no-download gambling software is more viable since downloading the software will considerably affect the playing speed. Another relevant point is that if a player would like to go online casino hopping, it would be best to stay with the no-download-required gambling software since opting to download all gambling software can really take a toll on a computer's memory.

The major disadvantage with the to-download software is that most, if not all, only run in Windows-based computers while the no-need-to-download software will run in any operating system, allowing MAC and Linux users to participate in online gambling. The latest no-download-required gambling software requires plug-ins like Flash or Shockwave which shouldn't be a problem because these plug-ins can be downloaded and installed for free.

The biggest drawback of a no-download-needed gambling software is on the quantity of the games offered. Usually these online gambling software offer a little less than half of the games offered in should-be-downloaded version though care is taken to maintain the spread and also include the popular games.
